Climaate change established, for those of us who aren't scientists

IF YOU WANT NEAR—DEFINITIVE PROOF OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND IT’S ILL-STARRED EFFECTS ON YOUR PROGENY, SEE NOVA - Official Website | Decoding the Weather Machine, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/decoding-weather-machine.html

If you want to know how your senators voted on the nomination of the climate-change denier, find out if he’s a democrat or a republican:  all republicans voted for his ascension; all democrats voted against.  See Senate Confirms Climate Change Denier To Lead NASA | HuffPost, https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jim-bridenstine-nasa-confirmation_us_5ad8aab7e4b03c426dac081c.

Bill Gates on genetically-enhanced animals and plants

FOREIGN AFFAIRS has made an article by Bill Gets available to those of us who don’t subscribe to Foreign Affairs, in a belief that Gates’ article is important and deserves a wider readership the the magazine would afford.

 See Foreign Affairshttps://www.foreignaffairs.com/?cid=int-gna&pgtype=art

From Gates' point of view the plight of the poorest of us is better than it has heretofore been in the recorded history of  the world [Gates didnn't put it that strongly], and it would be even better if genetically-enhanced animals and plants were readily and widely accepted, subject go some safeguards. Gates even mentions the prospet of genetically-enhanced human animals.

Still today, too many live on $1.90 a day.

Gates’ article is thoughtful, and we should be grateful and thankful and proud that Man is endow with one such as he.  Gates could have spent his time buying up votes for county judges and U.S. presidents, as some billionaires are said to be doing today.

Gates made another impressive gesture when he encouraged Harvard graduates to devote their professional lives to decreasing the gap between rich and poor.

See Remarks of Bill Gates, Harvard Commencement 2007          https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2007/06/remarks-of-bill-gates-harvard-commencement-2007/ . ['". . . reducing inequity is the highest human achievement. (Emphasis added)]

Some happy day, if Gates’ recommendation is accepted, all animal and plant food will be  “new" animals and plants, owned by he who holds the patent on each of them.

To hold a patent is to allow the holder to charge for his “invention” whatever he wishes, and to withhold use of  the intention from whomever he pleases.

The power to starve a person or a people is an awesome power, and Gates does not discuss that power in this article.

There are supera-national organs a-borning which could insure that patents on food are not misused, if they could also be made to be fair.  A discussion on who might be empowered, fairly and reasonably, would be welcomed.  I know a few lawyers who could open the discussion.

Rich and poor together, one World

Winners and losers in Syria

I don't like Iran, Turkey, Assad, Russia, Israel (as it currently presents itself), Saudi Arabia, the UAE. . . . and our temporary president.

The only group in the region that is worthy of US support is the Syrian Kurds. In a part of the World awash in racism, gender inequality, sectarianism, and economic bitterness and hate, the Kurds are the Shining City on the Hill. Even Reagun would agree.

France and Great Britain have pledged to stand by the Kurds, and France is sending in troops to show they mean more than words. Turkey is more angry with the France than  with anyone else. Germany should do the same as France. The US should keep its troops in Kurdish regions, and stop the loose talk of premature withdrawal.

WINNERS AND LOSERS. The US premature withdrawal, proposed but not enacted, will have these predictable consequences:

➤Iran will get it's pipeline to deliver natural gas from the Pars Field to Europe and will become a major player in the Middle East.,Qatar, who sides with its enemy, Saudi Arabia, won't be able to sell its share of Pars natural gas to Europe because Assad won't approve it

Saudi Arabia's Salafi jihadists in Southern Syria, imported from Afghanistan, will not make Syria a Wahhabist State, and the Saudi will be stuck with thousands of angry and murderous fighting men, a threat to Saud stability.

Russia's oil sales to Europe will continue apace, and so will its economy, which is dependent on those very sales, as long as its oil holds out.

Assad will unify his country, with no remorse . I hate it that he will.

➤The Kurds will resume their lives of poverty and want, to the US' disgrace

The US, for all it's economic and military power, will have egg on its face, and will be reviled by the World for a long time to come. The Ugly American writ large.
